Give Like a Billionaire II

The redux. 🙂

So there were a few more suggestions on how to give like a billionaire which i thought make sense according to Diamond Cutter principles (given the fact that what really makes them work is to understand how they work… ). For example, another suggestion was, “Billionaire… take their wealthy pals on a weekend retreat and hit them up for pledges. You… can round up your like-minded friends and pool your charitable resources.”

Why not? I recently combined a few of these myself… Geshe Michael needed a new laptop. So i thought, “He’s a powerful object.” 🙂 “I’ll get him a new one.” Great idea; he’s a powerful object towards which to give. Also, i can plan it out, which means i’ll plant lots of great seeds. Only problem… i don’t have enough money to buy Geshe Michael a new laptop.

No worries; i just kept asking around untili i found enough people willing to donate some money towards his new laptop. Then when i had collected enough, i told Geshe Michael i had enough money to get him a new one, which one would he like? Then i researched what were the best laptops to help him decide, showed him a list, explained the pros and cons, etc. All the while thinking about how i had collected the money and how i was going to pay for it when he decided which one he wanted. Mucho good karma. 🙂

More advice: “Billionaires… sit on non-profit boards. You… can give your time to your favorite cause.” We get this question a lot at DCI retreats; “So you’re saying that you get money by giving money. But I don’t have any money to give, that’s why I came here!” To which we respond, you always have something to give; if you don’t have cash, give your time.

If the old adage is true, time is money, then give your time freely to help others. Don’t underestimate this!

Don’t underestimate the value of what you can provide. A typical volunteer hour at, say, a soup kitchen or in your parks departments is worth $20.85 to the organization, according to Independent Sector, a group that tracks nonprofits.

$20.85 an hour, times 65 karmic sees per finger snap… i think you can see where i’m going with this. 🙂

Ok, so give like a billionaire! (Give to be a billionaire! : ) The more we give, the more we get, the more we can help others. 🙂

Afterword: I uploaded this live from inside firewalled China, proving that any seed can be changed… 🙂
